The onset of the Covid-19 pandemic has sparked a renewed interest in how our bodies react to their environment. With the freedom of social media, some of the knowledge shared is more elementary, such as advice on washing hands, or of limited practical value. Rather than another DIY hand sanitiser recipe, I would like to share two science-backed and extraordinary practices that strengthened my immune system more than I ever thought possible.
I have been practising Dr Joe Dispenza’s guided meditations, alongside the Wim Hof Breathing Method, for about 5 years. The positive changes those two practices brought to my health, my mind have been overwhelming. I was able to completely get off of my MS medications as well as heal myself from some might consider a severe emotional trauma.

Dr Joe Dispenza
When we are in panic and fear 24/7, our mind does not know the difference whether the panic comes from; An experience OR thought alone.
The goal is to survive, to stay alive, so when there is danger our mind switches over to a ‘defence mode’. It prepares to fight or, in the most dangerous scenarios, flee.
Why this is important
Let me explain this with an experiment done by Dr Joe Dispenza with 120 test subjects - ordinary humans just like you and I.
They practiced resentment and fear for 10 mins and 3 times a day. Then Dispenza and his medical team measured the immune response of the test subjects. The chemical immunoglobulin - our primary defence against bacteria and viruses ( and the best flu shot you can get) - is reduced because their body thought that they are facing severe threats. Even though every test subject knew it was just an experiment. After, they had no energy left in their inner world for growth and repair, their immunoglobulin levels were lowered.
We expect our immune system to fight for us and be ready for 24/7. But turns out it doesn’t work like that.
When you are stressed, your body produces greater levels of the stress hormone cortisol. In short spurts, cortisol can boost your immunity by limiting inflammation. This is useful in short-term emergencies, like a collision with a car.
But if your body gets used to having too much cortisol in your blood e.g. current situation we are in (Covid), this opens the door for more inflammation and decreases the body’s lymphocytes — the white blood cells that help fight off infection. The lower your lymphocyte level, the more at risk you are for viruses, including the common cold.
So what do we do? How do we turn this around? How can we rise the chemical immunoglobulin (our primary defence against bacteria and viruses) in our blood?
The same test subjects began to experiment gratitude and happiness by meditating 10 minutes, 3 times a day.
After 4 days, their IGA levels (the blood level of immunoglobulin) raised up to 50%. Their body’s immune system started up-regulating genes that are making the proteins and immunoglobulin and antibodies to fight off bacteria and viruses. In other words their inner state became stronger than their outer world.
This simple experiment shows that just by meditating daily your immune system gets stronger.

Wim Hof Method
Over time, we as humans have developed a different attitude towards nature and we've forgotten about our inner power. This is the ability of our body to adapt to extreme temperature and survive within our natural environment. The Wim Hof Method is based on this principle.

How it works?
Cold therapy + Breathing Technics + Mental focus
Breathing Technic
Step 1: Find a quiet place where you can lay down or at least somewhere you can sit comfortably. Open the windows so you have access to fresh air. Make yourself extra warm with a blanket.
Step 2: Have a stopwatch with you (not your phone! Stay away from that thing, seriously!)
Step 3: Take 30 deep breaths. Breathe deeply in by the mouth or nose and let some of it out. Not fully. That’s the secret.
Step 4: On 30, let the breath out and hold without any air in you and start your stopwatch. I know it sounds weird but this stage is the most relaxing part of the whole thing. I look forward to it!
Step 5: Repeat this cycle 4 times. See how many seconds you can hold your breath each time looking at your stopwatch. The more each time means the method works.
Step 6: Once you’ve finished, keep your eyes closed and observe.
Step 7: This is optional but I usually stay another hour to do Dr Joe Dispenza’s guided meditations. You have filled your cells with so much 02 that it is an amazing time to meditate and let the 02 go deep.
Step 8: Repeat daily and experience the miracles happening in your body.
Cold therapy
Step 1: Take a warm shower like you always do everyday.
Step 2: Just before you step out of the shower, turn the water to cold. Yes, COLD!
Step 3: Start doing the breathing technic again and get under the cold water. Stay there 30 breaths.
Yes it will feel cold but believe me, you will get used to it!
The science
In 2011 in an experiment, Wim Hof was injected in with the bacterial endotoxin. In normal humans the injection should cause a strong immune response - fever, chills and headaches. But not in him! It appeared that he was somehow able to suppress his immune response by making his body increase adrenalin. His method was able to influence his immune system at will. Never heard of!
Normally it is impossible to increase adrenalin levels by will. Because adrenalin is released by the autonomic nervous system which any living being can not control by will.
Scientists thought that he was special - a freak of nature. So they performed the same experiment to 12 other people that he trained. Same thing happened. They were all able to suppress their immune response and none of them reacted to the bacteria and get sick. Since then he has been teaching his method to so many people. Final thoughts
